Where the inspiration came from
Over the past few years stand-up-paddleboarding has become a popular activity inspiring development into various accessories. These accessories include wind sails to use with a paddleboard. One example is a free-floating sail that is typically a dome shape and projects from a circular frame. Straps or ropes extend from the frame and can be held by the paddleboarder who positions the sail to catch the wind. These sails are easily transportable and deployable, however they are limited to downwind use. Another example is one which includes a base that fixes to the board. It has an accompanying rig for supporting a truncated triangular sail which can be mounted to the base. This sail must be assembled onto the board prior to entering the water.
Why Supsail is different
Supsail acknowledges these restrictions and is a sail that eliminates the requirement for extra parts and for on-land assembly.
- The Supsail can be returned to its stowed position whilst the Supsailor is still on the water.
- It can be used without any special adaptation.
- It can be easily stored on the paddleboard.
- It allows the downwind sailor to see where they are going.
- The sailor can sail across or even slightly into the wind, as well as downwind.
- It can be taken from its stowed position and deployed within a few seconds whilst on the water.
